Clearblue Fertility Monitor Review

The following review of the Clear blue Fertility Monitor was reprinted from Epinions.com and is one of the best reviews for the Clearblue Monitor I've ever seen (source page is at the end of the article)...

In the past Clear Blue Easy has served me well. When my Answer test presented me with an extremely faint second line a year ago, I rush to the store to get a better (read more expensive) pregnancy test. I chose the regular Clear Blue Easy test then. After taking it, the only question left to ask was When can I come in Dr. OBGYN? This time around, I intended on taking the same route due to my lack of patience and the cost of pregnancy test. Some how or another while getting a few last minute things for the week at Wal-Mart, I ended up on the pregnancy test aisle.

Appearance & Price
There I found Clearblue Easy Digital pregnancy test. The box is generally blue and has the name of the product and a picture of the actual test and a picture of the pregnant/not pregnant read outs. It also states Over 99% Accurate* the * equaling accurate at detecting typical pregnancy hormone levels. I thought the worded results were a great idea and maybe I would feel more comfortable in the results. I thought it was going to be uber expensive, but for almost $11.00 for 2 tests (1 ”free”) I figured it wasn’t TOO expensive. A little more that the others but not exorbitantly more.

I came home and put the Clearblue Easy Digital pregnancy test on the bathroom countertop. There was not much reason to take the test now – but maybe in a week, two for sure. Just like donuts the test kept calling me. After tossing and turning all night (too much caffeine) I finally decided at 4:00 am that it couldn’t hurt to take the test a little early. So I did.

Now the question.... How’s it work?
First lets start with what’s in the box. There are 2 sealed test sticks, a test holder (which is where the digital display window is), and a set of directions. The test sticks are your typical flat test sticks. An absorbent tip on one end that has it’s own little cap and a rectangular results window at the other.

Measuring about 3” x ¼” . The test holder is approximately 4” x ½” and is a rectangular shape with rounded edges. Kind of reminds me of a really long finger. There is a space in which the test stick fits at one end and on top of the holder is a blue eject button and an oval digital read out window. I have no explanation as to how the result goes from the stick to the digital read out. It just does.

Once the test stick is inserted into the holder, you carry out the normal testing procedures as normal. Instead of wondering if you have imagined the 2nd line you are supposed to see the words NOT PREGNANT or PREGNANT appear.

Easy enough. Mine said... oh wait, I have to tell you about - My Experience Now I’ll tell you what I did. I unwrapped a test stick, and after a quick glance at the direction, I removed the capped end to expose the absorbent strip. Another quick glance pointed out the blue arrows. One on the test strip and one on the test holder. Following the arrows alone will tell you that the test strip slides inside the test holder and then it clicks into place.

The digital read out then starts flashing a picture of a test strip on the display which signals the test is ready. Having being very familiar with using pregnancy test and not having much more time to wait, I....went. After the absorbent strip had absorbed all it could I reached for the directions that stated that the test results should take 2-3 minutes. I did not time it, but it was certainly less than 3 minutes when I had my result.

Cons
Two things I do not like about Clearblue Easy Digital pregnancy test. ONE is that since it is digital and since the holder is used more than once dependent on how many test strips that came in your box, your result disappears with in an hour. If you want to keep the positive result test stick this is NOT the test for you. Nor is the regular Clearblue Easy test – it ends up showing a very unflattering yellowish/brown color in the result window over time. I did keep the Answer test and it still looks exactly the same. Funny thing is I am not sure why I even kept it. It just screams urine.

TWO is that as I was writing this review I had the actual product (as I always do) here with me. Remember how I told you that the test stick has a regular result window on it? I did not check it earlier this morning. I just took the digital result for what it was and left it at that. Oh! Have I not told you what the digital read out was yet? Well it said – drum roll please – not pregnant.

HOWEVER, the used test stick had a faint second line. I called the customer service line and the representative said to go with what the digital read out said. Why oh why put a regular read out on the stick? Just to drive a woman crazy? There isn't even any mention of this window in any of the directions that tell you not to look at it or that it's even there.

Overall I love the look of it and the idea of reading the results. In the end I will probably stick with my Answer tests when I am curious and the if there is still any question I will go for the regular Clearblue Easy test.

Don’t get me wrong the Clearblue Easy Digital pregnancy test is worth trying and I may try it again. It’s just that there’s too much room for confusion. For me I KNOW what has worked in the past. With the regular Clearblue Easy test, there is no mistaking that blue line when it is positive.
